Transmission Planning Engineer

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Pune for Transmission Planning Engineer. The Transmission Planning Engineer specializing in software focuses on the planning, enhancements and maintenance of software tools and models used in the analysis and planning of electrical transmission systems. This role involves working closely with power system engineers to ensure that software tools accurately represent the transmission network and provide reliable data for planning and decision-making. 

• Create and validate detailed transmission system models for load flow, short circuit, stability, and contingency analysis. 
• Implement enhancements to improve the accuracy and efficiency of simulation models. 
• Plan, test, and maintain software tools used for transmission system analysis and planning. 
• Ensure software tools are up-to-date with the latest industry standards and regulatory requirements. 
• Integrate data from various sources (PSS SINCAL, GIS, asset management systems, ETAP) into software tools. 
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency across different platforms and models. 
• Provide technical support and training to transmission planning engineers and other users of the software tools. 
• Work closely with power system engineers to understand their needs and incorporate feedback into software development. 
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in power system analysis software and methodologies. 
• Implement innovative solutions to enhance software functionality and user experience. 
• Prepare detailed documentation for software tools, including user manuals, technical specifications, and training materials. 
• Generate reports, report templates and visualizations to support transmission planning activities.  
• Ensure software tools and models comply with federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards. 
• Prepare and submit necessary documentation and reports to regulatory agencies. 

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional engineering (PE) license is preferred. 
• Experience in transmission planning, software development, or a related field.  
• Experience with power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, PSS SINCAL, PSCAD, ETAP, etc.). 
• Familiarity with databases (SQL, NoSQL) and data integration techniques. 
• Strong understanding of electrical power systems, transmission system design, and regulatory standards (e.g., NERC, FERC). 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. 
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams. 

• Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or other relevant certifications. 
• Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with a focus on power systems. 
• Experience with project management principles and software.
